Chapter 9. Using Sherlock for Internet Searches > Using the Phone Book Channel

Using the Phone Book Channel

Sherlock's Phone Book channel () is a slick way to get the phone number of a business or lost acquaintance. As with all of Sherlock's channels, you'll need an Internet connection. Other than that, Sherlock requires as much specific information as you have on the business or person you're trying to locate. And you won't just get a simple phone number, Sherlock provides you with the address, driving directions (if available); even a map, to help you in your quest.

Use the Phone Book Channel

Open the Applications folder, and then double-click the Sherlock icon.

Click the Phone Book button.

Click the Business or People button, to search for a specific business or individual.

Click the Business Name Or Category pop-up to select a lookup.

Type the city name, state, or zip code to perform the search.

Click the Search button to generate a list of possible matches.

Continue clicking the Search button to add more matches to the list.

Click on a business (or name), to display driving directions and a map.

Type in a zip code, state, or address to begin the driving directions.

Use the Pan and Zoom buttons to manipulate the map image.

Click the Print button to generate a printout of the address, driving directions, and a map.

Quit Sherlock.
