Setting iCal Preferences

Apple's iCal application is not just a standard, one-size-fits-all calendar. As a matter of fact, you can customize the calendar interface to fit your particular needs. iCal gives you the ability to change how the calendar displays days and weeks, and months. In addition, you can instruct iCal when to delete old events and To Do items; even turn off alarms when the program is not open or turn on support for different event time zones ().

Set iCal Preferences

Open the Applications folder, and then double-click the iCal icon.

Click the Calendar menu, and then click Preferences.

Click the Days Per Week and Start Week On pop-ups, and then make your selection.

Click the Starts At and Ends At pop-ups, and then make you selection on when a day starts and ends. Click the Show pop-up, and then select how many hours to show in the view window.

Select or clear the Show Time In Month View check box.

Select how to Sort To Do Items, when to Delete Events and To Do Items, whether to Hide To Do Items if they fall outside the calendar view, and when to Hide Completed To Do Items.

Select or clear the check boxes to Turn On Time Zone Support and Turn Off Alarms When iCal Is Not Open.

Click the Close button to close the Preferences window.

TIMESAVER If you have a dialog or window open and you want to close it, you can press the Esc key.

Quit iCal.
