Chapter 7. Printing and Faxing > Using the Printer Setup Utility

Using the Printer Setup Utility

Setting up a printer use to be a difficult and time-consuming process. There were all kinds of questions to answer, driver files to find, and after all that time, you might still have problems. With the Panther operating system, setting up a printer is easy. Adding a printer can be as simple as plugging the printer in, running the Printer Setup Utility, and clicking the Add button. The Info button on the Printer Setup Utility not only gives you the name of the selected printer, but also the ability to change the name. When you're working in an office where all the networked printers are a bunch of numbers (155.657.221) this option can be pretty helpful. You can also print to shared Windows printers over a network or share your own printer with Windows users (). In addition, you can use the setup utility to monitor the ink levels on your printers, perform routine maintenance, and even delete the printer.

Add a Printer

Open the Utilities folder, and then double-click the Printer Setup Utility icon.

Click the Add button to add a new printer.

Click the Connection pop-up to select the connection method used by the new printer, and then select a printer from the list. Select any other specific options for the new printer.

Click Add.

Click the Close button.

Quit Printer Setup Utility.
