Chapter 8. Exploring the Internet > Using Internet Connect

Using Internet Connect

Instead of performing separate tasks to change a network port configuration in the Network Preferences pane and connect to the Internet, you can use the Internet Connect application to perform both tasks at the same time. The Internet Connect application makes it easy to quickly log into different configurations in your current location for dial-up modem, ethernet, and AirPort connections. For an AirPort connection, the Internet Connect application also displays a readout of the wireless signal strength, the base station id you are connected to, and the status of the connection.

Use Internet Connect for a Modem

Open the Applications folder, and then double-click the Internet Connect icon.

Click Internal Modem.

Click the Configuration pop-up, and then select a modem configuration you already created, or click Other to create one.

Enter the phone number for your ISP.

Type the Internet Account Name and Password.

To display the modem menu for easy connection access, select the Show Modem Status In Menu Bar check box.

Click Connect to start a dial-up connection.

Click the Close button, and then name and save the configuration.
