Task 4: Adding Programs to the Classic Start Menu

In the Start Menu tab of the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box, click the Classic Start menu radio button. (For help accessing this dialog box, refer to the preceding task.)

Click the Customize button.

The Customize Classic Start Menu dialog box opens. To add a program, click the Add button.

Type the location of the program you want to add, and click the Next button.

INTRODUCTION

Although Windows XP enables you to pin programs to your Start menu (as described in Task 2, “Pinning a Program to the Start Window”), it is the Classic view that offers users the most control and flexibility when it comes to organizing the Start menu. In order for you to add programs to specific folders on the Start menu, to delete programs from the Start menu, to create new folders on the Start menu, and to move programs from one folder to another on the Start menu, you must switch to the Classic-style menu.

Click the folder in which you want to place the program, and click the Next button.

Type a name for menu entry.

Click the Finish button. The program is added to the Start menu.
