Chapter 26. Using the Computer Managemen... > The Computer Management Console

The Computer Management Console

Windows XP comes preconfigured with several consoles, each containing one or more snap-ins. If the administrative tasks you need to perform can be addressed by using one of these preconfigured consoles, you can get right to work without having to create a customized console. In fact, you've probably used these consoles many times without knowing that MMC was part of the picture.

This section looks at the console that you have probably already used the most: the Computer Management Console, shown previously in Figure 26.1. To bring it up, right-click My Computer and select Manage. You can also get to it by clicking Start, All Programs, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, or from the Control Panel by selecting Performance and Maintenance, Administrative Tools, Computer Management.
