You can manage many Windows components through the standard “Computer Management” console that's predefined when you install Windows. However, there are several reasons you might want to construct your own console:

  • You frequently use MMC snap-ins that don't appear in Computer Management, such as the Certificate Management tool.

  • You manage computers on your network and want quick access to their management tools.

  • You want to manage Windows 2000/2003 Servers using snap-ins such as the Active Directory Users and Groups tool.
