Diagnostic Tools and Utilities

There are several sorts of problems that you can encounter in a network:

  • Pilot error: entering incorrect paths, filenames, or passwords.

  • “Soft” problems that occur even with perfectly functioning network connectivity; these are problems such as inadequate security privileges on accounts to access network resources.

  • “Hard” problems, the failure of network connectivity itself. These can be due to software configuration errors, or hardware failure.
