Disk Management

Garnering a full understanding of these exciting and powerful Windows XP disk management options is crucial before you begin tinkering, obviously. Unfortunately, even after you've mastered the meaning of the new terms, mentally churned through the ramifications of your choices, and are ready to take a plunge or two, you'll have to figure out how to execute those plans. Even if you have experimented with hard disks, older DOS and Windows operating systems, third-party apps such as Partition Magic, and so on, you should still prepare yourself to be a bit confused at first.

Thus, your primary means of performing disk configuration and management will be via the Disk Management console. Additionally, you can use several command-line utilities to perform disk management and maintenance tasks. These various tools will be explored in some depth in the next sections.
