Security Templates

In the previous sections we discussed Local Computer Policy settings. If you have more than one computer to configure, you will find the process tedious and error-prone. The Security Templates system lets you store policy settings in a file that can then be deployed to multiple computers with relative ease.

One way to think of the difference between policies and security templates is that policies persist in the computer and work all the time; templates are “applied” to the computer as a “policy installation” procedure. And at the same time, security templates can be configured to reset file and registry permissions, can adjust Event Log size and overrun settings, and can set the startup options for system services.
