Add/Remove Programs

One of the first things that you'll want to do with your Windows XP system is to install—and customize—your own favorite applications. In all probability, you're already accustomed to doing this—whether under Windows 9x, NT, or 2000—and adding or removing programs under Windows XP is not drastically different from before.

Thus, depending on the source, installing an application may be as simple as inserting a disc in the CD-ROM drive—or, given a network or DSL connection, downloading the installation to a local or network drive—and then following the onscreen prompts.
