Before You Run into Trouble

The best tool to have on hand when you’re diagnosing Internet problems is information about what you should expect when your connection is working.

First, I suggest that you invest a bit of time learning about networking in general—for the Internet is nothing but an overgrown computer network—by reading Chapter 14, “Overview of Windows XP Networking.” In that chapter I’ll define the networking terms that I’ll be using in this chapter.
