Using Zip Drives and Other Removable Media

High-capacity drives that use removable media have become increasingly popular options on desktop PCs. Many desktop systems aimed at the home consumer market now include as standard equipment a drive that uses rewritable, removable, magneto-optical cartridge media.

The Iomega Zip drive is the most popular removable data storage device. The Zip drive and its media are inexpensive, and their popularity makes it easy for users to exchange files. At 100MB each, Zip disks are attractive alternatives to floppies, especially for exchanging large files. (Iomega makes a 250MB version of the Zip disk that is nowhere near as popular as the ubiquitous 100MB standard.)
