Chapter 16. Turning a Windows PC into a ... > Configuring Game Hardware

Configuring Game Hardware

Although high-quality audio and a sharp display are important elements of a killer gaming system, the most crucial element for any action or adventure game is the device you use to interact with the game. You'll find yourself outgunned if you step into a fast-paced, shoot'em-up armed with nothing more than a mouse or keyboard. To truly experience most 3D games, you need a joystick, gamepad, or even a steering wheel. These devices complete the illusion presented by the graphics and sound and can really make you feel as though you're a part of the game.

Installing a Joystick or Game Controller
