Troubleshooting

When Windows Won't Dial

You've set up ICS correctly using a dial-up connection, but when you open the Web browser on a client PC, nothing happens unless the ICS host is already connected to the Internet. What's wrong?

Check every one of the AutoDial options in Internet Explorer. Open the Internet Options dialog box and check the properties of the default connection. On the Connections tab, make sure the proper connection is set as the default and that the Always Dial My Default Connection box is checked. Next, select the default connection, click the Settings dialog box, and make sure you've entered the correct username and password. Finally, try dialing the connection by double-clicking its connection icon in the Dial-Up Networking folder; if it begins dialing automatically, press Cancel to display the Connect To dialog box. Then, ensure that the Save Password and Connect Automatically buttons are both checked.
