Chapter 28. Managing the Windows Address... > Using Internet Directories to Find C...

Using Internet Directories to Find Contacts

In addition to using Address Book to find email addresses, you also can access Internet directories. Address Book provides built-in access to five of the most popular Internet directory services, including Bigfoot, InfoSpace, VeriSign, and WhoWhere; use these huge contact databases to find people and businesses from around the world.

Note

These Internet-based directory services all use a standard called Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). LDAP is a specialized set of protocols designed to allow almost any application (including Outlook Express and Outlook 2000) to access directories on the Internet. You can find more detailed information on LDAP on the Webopedia, an online encyclopedia dedicated to computer technology, at http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/L/LDAP.html.
