Troubleshooting

Resolving System File Conflicts

You recently installed a new program, and immediately afterward, you began experiencing problems when you tried to run it.

One possible explanation is a conflict in system files, usually with a programming library such as Mfc42.dll (Microsoft's Foundation Class library) or Msvcrt40.dll (the Visual C Run-time library). Your new program tried to install an unauthorized version of a file in the Windows\System folder; then the System File Protection feature intercepted the file and restored the authorized Windows Me version.
