Secrets of the Windows Masters: Creating Batch Files to Start Windows Programs

A batch file (.BAT extension) is a text file that contains the commands you'd run from a command (DOS) prompt to start programs. Traditionally, batch files were used to start MS-DOS programs from menus, and AUTOEXEC.BAT is a file that both MS-DOS and Windows can use for starting antivirus programs and other utilities.

Windows Me, similar to Windows 9x, can use batch files to start both Windows and MS-DOS programs. To create the startup batch file mentioned earlier in this chapter, follow these steps:
