Restoring Backed-Up Files

With extraordinary good luck, you'll never need to restore a backed-up file. For most of us, though, Murphy's Law says that someday, something will go wrong. When that day comes, you can use the Restore Wizard to pull a single file, a group of files, or an entire hard drive's worth of data off your backup set.

Note

When you back up to a file, the Microsoft Backup program uses the QIC extension to identify the file type. This label also defines various standards for tape drives.
