Chapter 21. Connecting to a Business Network > Working with NetWare Networks

Working with NetWare Networks

Three versions of NetWare are in use extensively today: Some older, smaller networks still use version 3.x. Version 4.x (also referred to as IntranetWare) has replaced most 3.x installations. The latest version of NetWare is version 5.x. A major difference between the 3.x and its successors is the directory service.

Novell version 3.x uses a type of directory service called the bindery. The bindery uses a flat model for storing account information such as usernames and passwords. Each 3.x server has a separate bindery. Therefore, if you need to access resources on more than one 3.x server, you must have an account and password for each one.
