Using Control Panel

After you finish running the Windows Setup program, the job of configuring Windows to your personal preferences begins. It's a never-ending process, really, partly because it takes time to discover where Microsoft's default settings need tweaking, and partly because over time your preferences change.

For most Windows configuration tasks, the proper starting point is a Control Panel option. In Windows Me, Microsoft has reorganized this folder slightly, moving some options from the My Computer window (Dial-Up Networking and Scheduled Tasks, for instance) and adding some others that were previously scattered around the Windows interface (Folder Options, for example, and Taskbar and Start Menu). And, of course, a few Control Panel icons are brand-new, such as Automatic Updates and the Scanners and Cameras folder.
