Over the past five years, I've written at least one book about every version of Windows Microsoft has released. During that time, I've had the pleasure of working with many wonderful people at Macmillan USA, but none worked harder or more professionally than the team who made this book happen.

A thousand thanks to Development Editor extraordinaire Rick Kughen. His skilled hand helped this book turn the corner from pretty good to truly excellent. Thanks, Rick—here's hoping the Packers go all the way this year. Or maybe next year.

A million mahalos to Acquisitions Editor Jill Byus Schorr, for her patience and understanding of Microsoft's inscrutable scheduling process.

Mark Edward Soper was an invaluable part of the team that put this book together. If you like what you read about Internet Explorer and home networking, please join me in thanking Mark. And a special thank you to Greg Shultz, who used his years of Windows expertise to help fill in the chapters on fonts and games.

Project Editor Susan Moore managed to keep all the loose ends together so this big book didn't unravel. Technical Editor Mark Reddin and Copy Editor Megan Wade worked long hours to ensure that every detail is correct.

My heartfelt appreciation goes to Claudette Moore and Debbie McKenna of Moore Literary Agency, for their skilled handling of the behind-the-scenes details of the publishing business. I can't imagine what I'd do without them.

And finally, a big, sentimental tip of the hat to the beta testers and developers I've worked with since the Chicago project. This is the end of an era—it's been fun.
