Chapter 27. Web Browsing with Internet E... > What Is Internet Explorer 5.0?

What Is Internet Explorer 5.0?

Internet Explorer 5.0 (IE5) delivers all the basic functionality you've come to expect from a Web browser. It lets you gather information from servers located on your company's intranet or on the World Wide Web. It displays text and graphics in richly formatted pages, runs scripts, accesses databases, and downloads files. With the help of IE5, you can establish secure, encrypted sessions with distant servers so that you can safely exchange confidential information, such as your credit card number, without fear that it will be intercepted by a third party.

Note

For maximum security, you must download the 128-bit encryption patch or the updated IE5 version, which includes this feature, from Microsoft's Web site.
