Part VII: Appendixes > Identifying the Features of Microsoft Fax

Identifying the Features of Microsoft Fax

Microsoft Fax enables you to send and receive faxes through your fax modem on your computer. You can use Microsoft Fax on a separate computer to service one user or connect it to a network to use it as a fax server in a workgroup environment.

Microsoft Fax is part of the Windows Messaging architecture and can replace any fax software you might already have installed on your computer, such as WinFax Pro. Microsoft Fax enables you to create fax messages, add cover pages, and send the messages to a fax machine or another fax modem device. Because Fax is a Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI)-compliant application, you can use other applications, such as Microsoft Word for Windows 97, to send faxes. Also, if you use Microsoft Fax to send a fax to a fax modem, you can encrypt it with a password to provide a layer of security for the document.
