Secrets of Mastering the Windows 98 Environment: A Little-Known Tip About Using Phone Dialer and Call Waiting

Phone Dialer does not dial the code to disable call waiting, even though the This Location Has Call Waiting. To Disable It, Dial <Code> option for Dialing Properties on the Tools menu is checked and filled in properly. Even though this setting is available as an option in the Dialing Properties off the Tools menu, Phone Dialer does not acknowledge the setting. To properly disable call waiting, you must manually add the appropriate code as a prefix to the number being dialed. For example, if the number you are dialing is 555-1212, you would manually enter the call-waiting code, such as *70, with the number being dialed. So, in this example, you would type *70, 555-1212 in the Number to Dial dialog box. The comma after the code allows a pause after the prefix is dialed to give the system enough time to disable the call waiting before the number is dialed.
