Secrets of Mastering the Windows 98 Environment: How to Create a WordPad Template

You can create a template file in WordPad to be used over and over again as a time-saver. To create a template file in WordPad follow these simple steps:

  1. Open a new file in WordPad.

  2. Make any changes you want to the file that is to be part of the template; for example, the font size, font style, and margin settings you want to use. When you are working in WordPad, to change the default font, you must type some text into the template and then assign the font.

  3. Save the file with a name that easily identifies the template, such as Document Arial TEMPLATE.TPL.

  4. Double-click My Computer.

  5. On the View menu, click Options.

  6. On the File Types tab, click the New Type button.

  7. Type a description of the template in the Description of Type box.

  8. In the Associated Extension box, type tpl.

  9. Click the New button.

  10. In the Action box, type open.

  11. In the Application Used to Perform Action box, enter the complete path for WordPad.

  12. Click OK until the Options dialog box closes.
