Working with Applications

Windows enables you to run more than one program at a time. Each program is displayed in its own window or as an item on the taskbar. The term active describes the window that is receiving input. The active window is usually the top program window. The active window's title bar is a different color than that of inactive windows.

Figure 3.9 shows two program windows. The active window contains multiple documents. The taskbar at the bottom of the screen displays the programs that are running. The button for the active program is highlighted on the taskbar.
