Problems with Windows 98 Recognizing External Modems

Windows 98 isn't recognizing my external modem.

If Windows 98 doesn't seem to be recognizing an external modem, the issue is with the type of adapter you are using. If you are using a 9-pin to 25-pin serial adapter, it may lack the wiring needed to pass Plug and Play (pages 250, 430) data to and from your PC. You need to purchase a newer adapter that allows Plug and Play to work with your external serial device.
