Secrets of Mastering the Windows 98 Environment: Advanced File Management Using WinZip

WinZip is a handy utility that enables you to compress files and subsequently archive them for easy, space-efficient access. A file archive is a file that contains other files, and Zip files are one of the most common types of archive format. Normally, to save space in the storage of the archive, the files in an archive are compressed. When creating an archive, WinZip uses the term add to mean "compress files and add them to an archive." After archiving the files, you can extract them. Extract means to "decompress" the files that make up an archive. The extraction process creates separate files on a designated disk or storage device.

You can create a new archive while using the WinZip GUI tool and selecting New Archive from either the WinZip File pull-down menu or the New toolbar button. This activates the New Archive dialog box. The entire process is very simple with the New Archive dialog box.
