Chapter 15. Using NetMeeting > Making a NetMeeting Call

Making a NetMeeting Call

The best way to learn how to use NetMeeting is to be in a call (a meeting) and play around with it. So, arrange to call up a friend (make a date via telephone or some other means such as AIM [America Online Instant Messenger], ICQ, or Microsoft Messenger). As an alternative, you can cold call someone who shows up in the listing server (ILS).

The way you use the directory has changed in version 3, so if you're used to seeing a large list that takes forever to appear or scroll, listing all kinds of sexually explicit thrill-seekers, forget about it. Microsoft has tried to clean up the look and feel of NetMeeting by relegating the ILS directory lists to a secondary window and including an HTML-based search window for looking up a person in the ILS directory (see the caution later in this section for more details about the ILS directory.)
