Audio and Video Adjustments

Whereas the pure data communications (chat and whiteboard) are pretty trusty, video and audio can use a little tweaking to get working correctly. See the Troubleshooting section at the end of this chapter for more dirt on this topic, but right here I'll tell you about some of the basic adjustments you can futz with.

Sound Adjustments

Let's start with the basics. You need good hardware, if possible. You'll get the best sound with a headset. Headsets keep the sound of the speakers from feeding back into the microphone. If you use speakers, keep the speakers turned down to prevent feedback, which can lead to echo problems. NetMeeting is fairly good about this, and Microsoft has been working to solve this problem, but it can happen.
