Chapter 28. Tweaking the GUI > Tweaking the Send To Folder

Tweaking the Send To Folder

In Windows 9x, you could add options to the Send To folder at will, simply by dragging shortcuts or programs into the \ windows\ send to folder. This capability was a great boon, as discussed earlier in the chapter. For example, I have a universal file viewing program called Fview, which creates an ASCII or Hex display of virtually any file. I just put a shortcut to fview.exe in the Send To folder, and I can easily view unknown files, even look into .exe files for hidden clues to what they are, and so on. You get the idea.

Granted, the new Open With command on the right-click menu is helpful because it lets you choose any registered application to open a file with. But then again, it takes a bit of scrolling about in the registered programs window or browsing around the hard disk. Hardly convenient.
