Tips from the Windows Pros: Supercharging the Clipboard and Working with Scraps

I'm not a shill for software vendors, but believe me, one of the single most important steps you can take to be more productive in Windows is to install a Clipboard extender utility. Clipboard extenders are designed to fix the myriad shortcomings of the Windows Clipboard. They succeed far better than the ClipBook Viewer described earlier in this chapter.

The basic mission of a Clipboard extender is to automatically store every cut or copied item. That way, you can then paste any item at any time thereafter, even when it long ago vanished from the Clipboard itself—or even if you've shut down your system since you originally cut or copied the item. Choosing the item you want to paste is very convenient—one keystroke pops up a window listing the available items over your current application, and you can paste directly from there. You can organize the stored items into groups, edit the content of text items, and combine multiple items collected at different times into one for convenient one-step pasting.
