Internetworking with Novell NetWare

Novell NetWare was the first PC-based network operating system and for many years was virtually unchallenged as the LAN platform for the business world. It's still arguably the fastest and most efficient file sharing service available for PC networks. NetWare and Windows have been tightly integrated from the start, and Microsoft has made sure that it's virtually effortless to add Windows servers and workstations to a NetWare network.

Behind the scenes, internetworking with NetWare is fairly complex. NetWare uses different protocols and network components, as shown in Table 25.1. Windows networking and NetWare use different protocols to communicate with the file sharing computer and possibly a different network transport protocol.
