Troubleshooting

Shared Folders Are Visible to the Internet

When I use Explorer to view my computer across the Internet, I am prompted for a username and password, and/or shared folders are visible.

If you have this problem, Microsoft file sharing services are being exposed to the Internet. If you have a shared connection to the Internet, you need to install a packet filter to block file sharing services (UDP and TCP ports 137 through 139). If you are using Internet Connection Sharing, you can uninstall File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks on the computer sharing the Internet connection. Otherwise, you should use a filtering router to protect yourself. This problem is serious. Don't leave it unfixed!
