An Overview of Windows 2000 Professional

When Microsoft decided to improve upon Windows NT 4, the development team was given the mandate of producing a mainstream operating system for PCs that integrated the best business-related features and strengths of Windows 98 into the already popular and successful Windows NT. We believe they have come close to that mark with Windows 2000 Professional.

In addition to the features that Windows NT 4 already boasted, such as increased security over Windows 98, an advanced file system (NTFS), support for multiple CPUs, remote administration, and support for complex hard disk arrangements (RAID), Windows 2000 Professional now features a simplified user interface, improved Plug and Play, even more sophisticated mass storage features, power management, and support for a broad range of hardware devices. Additional reliability, security, and administration flexibility round out the package owing to the new file encryption system and application management tools.
