Ordering the Service

Ordering standard dial-up modem Internet service is really quite simple. Just call the ISP, talk to the sales department, and ask the sales representative to mail or fax you instructions for configuring Windows 2000. At the very least, you'll need this information:

  • Access telephone number(s) in your area, for your modem type

  • Does the service provide DHCP for automatic configuration?

  • If not: the DNS addresses (these numbers indicate the Internet address of servers that look up the names like http://www.que.com and turn them into network addresses)

  • Type of post office server: POP3 or IMAP

  • Names of SMTP mail server, post office server, and NEWS server

  • Account name and password
