Connecting Two Computers

If you are connecting just two computers, yours is the easiest possible network installation: You can simply run a cable from one computer to the other, and you're finished. You can run the cable across a desk, a room, or—if necessary—through the walls. Just be sure not to exceed the distance limit: 200 meters (660 feet) for 10BASE-2 coaxial cable or 100 meters (330 feet) for 10BASE-T twisted-pair cable.

Connecting Two Computers with Coaxial Cable

If you are using coaxial cable (10BASE-2) wiring, you need one length of RG-58 coaxial cable with BNC connectors at each end, two T-connectors, and two 50-ohm BNC terminators, as shown in Figure 21.8.
