Keeping Your Copy of Windows 95 Up to Date

Most PCs sold today include a copy of Windows 95 already installed. For the most part, PC makers use the Typical option to set up a Windows configuration that includes components that meet the needs of most Windows users. Like any one-size-fits-all solution, however, it's virtually certain that the Typical setup will miss some components that you need or add others that you will never use. PC manufacturers are also unlikely to add the most recent security patches and system updates when configuring a Windows 95 system. Most important, unless your system included a copy of OSR 2.5 with Internet Explorer 4.0, you'll need to obtain a copy of IE4 and install the Windows Desktop Update before you can use the shell enhancements described in this book.
