Chapter 2. Installing and Upgrading Wind... > System Requirements for Windows 95

System Requirements for Windows 95

No matter how hard you try, you can't avoid the Windows Setup program. Even on brand-new systems that arrive with Windows 95 already installed, chances are good that a component you need is missing or misconfigured, and you'll have to set it up on your own. Microsoft regularly issues patches and updates to Windows, including the mother of all updates, Internet Explorer 4.0, but to keep Windows running smoothly, you'll need to manage that collection of updates on your own. And if Windows ever stops working, you might need to run Setup from scratch to get back to work. This chapter explains how to install Windows 95 from scratch, how to upgrade an existing system with a newer version of Windows, and how to use patches and updates to keep Windows running smoothly and safely.
