Part VIII: Appendixes > Getting Drivers and Service Packs

Getting Drivers and Service Packs

In addition to getting information, it's likely that you will need to acquire a driver for Windows NT or a service pack. Drivers help Windows NT (and other systems) work with software and hardware. New hardware devices often require drivers to run with Windows NT Workstation, and usually these drivers are available from the information sources described in this appendix. Also, new versions of drivers contain bug fixes and enhancements, so it's important to update your system with these new versions.

Service packs contain updates to Windows NT. The same service pack addresses issues in both the Workstation and Server versions of Windows NT. Released periodically by Microsoft, these packs contain bug fixes and enhancements for Windows NT. Service packs also are available from some of the information sources covered in this appendix.
