Navigating Your Document

To effectively use WordPad, you need to become comfortable with the various commands necessary to move around your WordPad documents. To move the cursor (or insertion point) to a specific location in the document, simply move your mouse pointer (which appears as an I-beam pointer inside the WordPad document window) to the destination and click once. The cursor then moves to that location. To "pan" the WordPad window up and down or left to right around the document, you can click the scroll bars located on the bottom and right edges of the window. The position of the boxes located inside both of these scroll bars shows your current location relative to the entire document. You can also click and drag these boxes in one direction or the other to move more quickly around the document.

Although mouse movements are commonly used, WordPad also provides some handy keyboard shortcuts for navigating your document, listed in Table 12.1.
