Hardware and Protocols

The hardware you need for Dial-Up Networking (and for Remote Access Service) has to be installed before you begin installing the software. You need one of these peripherals:

  • A network adapter card if you're part of a cabled network

  • A modem

  • An X.25 smart card if you're on an X.25 network

  • An ISDN adapter if you are using an ISDN line
