Halting Operations in Windows NT Workstation 4.0

Windows NT Workstation 4.0 provides a number of options for halting operations. You can specify that the workstation be halted so the computer can be turned off, or you can temporarily lock the workstation so no other user has access to it until you unlock it. The method you choose to halt operations in Windows NT Workstation 4.0 is dependent on your requirements. Table 1.3 shows you some of the ways you can stop operations in Windows NT Workstation 4.0.

Table 1.3. Options for Halting Windows NT Workstation 4.0
Option Description
Logoff Logs the current user off of the system, but leaves Windows NT Workstation 4.0 running so another user can log on.
Shutdown Terminates Windows NT Workstation 4.0 so that the computer can be turned off.
Lock Freezes the system until the user who locked the workstation unlocks it by supplying a valid password.
