Chapter 15. Managing Shared Resources > Auditing Resource Usage

Auditing Resource Usage

You can audit, or track, the use of files and directories to see which users or groups use which resources. The results of your auditing are recorded in a log that you can view in the Event Viewer. Remember, however, that auditing requires use of memory and other system resources; the more events you audit, the slower your system may become.

Tip

You can audit both successful and unsuccessful actions. However, it makes sense that you're usually more concerned with the unsuccessful actions—they're the ones impairing your files and directories.
