Working with Volume Sets

You can create partitions and logical drives on any hard disk by following the guideline previously presented and using the Disk Administrator. Sometimes, however, you might have bits and pieces of free space left on two or more drives—none large enough to use as a partition but still enough free space that you don't want to waste it. You can collect the free space from several disks together and incorporate it into a volume set.

A volume set can be one partition or a collection of partitions that are formatted for use by a file system. A volume is often assigned a drive letter, although it can be assigned a label or name instead. You usually use a volume to help organize directories and files.
