Working with Partitions

When setting up partitions on your hard disks, you can choose the file system each partition will contain. If you formatted your drive upon installation to use only the Windows NT Workstation operating system, for example, then your hard disk has a single partition formatted with NTFS (New Technology File System).

Caution

The active system partition, usually found on Disk 0/Active Partition (often drive C), contains hardware-specific files needed to load the operating system. The operating system searches drive C when you start your computer for certain files needed to get the system up and running. Do not try to delete or change the active system partition.
