Attaching the Modem to the Computer

Installing the modem into your computer isn't terribly difficult, but you should take a moment to check the documentation provided with the modem to make sure any dip switches or jumpers are set accurately for your system and the use you'll make of the modem.

If you have an external modem, you have to connect it to a serial port. Most computers come with two serial ports, although additional serial ports may have been added. You can attach the modem to either serial port.
