Part VIII: Appendixes > Configuring How Sound Is Used

Configuring How Sound Is Used

If you have a sound card installed, Windows NT can use various sounds to alert you when certain Windows events take place. You don't have to settle for a simple beep from your PC speaker. You can hear a lively tune when Windows starts, a piano chord to accompany the appearance of a dialog box, and a different tune when Windows exits. You can pick the sounds Windows will use for each of these sounds—and many more.

To adjust the Windows sound settings, open the Sounds Properties dialog box (see Figure E.24) by double-clicking the Sounds icon in the Control Panel window.
