Adding a Multimedia Device

Two major steps outline the installation of a new multimedia device in your computer. First, you must install the hardware into your system case. Take certain precautions while performing this task to prevent damage to your new hardware and prevent injury to yourself. After the hardware is installed, you must tell Windows NT how to communicate with the new device by specifying the driver to use. The next few sections lead you through these steps.

Installing the Hardware

Before you begin installing the hardware, try to obtain the following list of tools. These tools can usually be found in a small "PC toolkit" sold at most computer stores for about $30:
